advertising apparently sucks when its free

So, tournament went well. For the last week and a half i've been trying to get back into my painting groove and get these videos posted.

One problem. I use background music in my videos and apparently the people at UMG or AMg (i cannot remember which) think free, cited advertising of thier awesome music is wrong to use as background noise for a reel of pictures in between two pieces of dialogue. So my audio was taken down and I decided to Redo the entire video, as well as the other two i have completed, so that no one is hurt by a little background music.

In other news, I will be opening a new text blog with the advent of the summer and hence my return to WAR. Note that this will not eclipse this blog, I WILL STILL MAKE UPDATES.

Anyhoo, thought i'd let my readers known whats goin on before I jump ship again for finals and trying to get things sorted.

Been awhile....

Sorry all, I've been absorbed with school, and painting for a tournament in a week so i have not had time to update.

OK, so heres the plan. I have 8 days, minus three hours this saturday, to paint 96 more miniatures (including 3.5 characters!) for the RECON 2000 pt tournament next sunday. If you've hopped over to the army list section, you've probably seen what i'm gonna take, so i'll spare the details. Suffice to say it is a sub-par but hopefully entertaining skellie horde tomb king list.

i'll ve updating project Q in a moment, and i plan to have pictures up during the next week.

The main plan is to tackle 76 figures first, and then move onto the hard stuff (tomb guard)

Well all, because of an aforementioned research project, I went into hobby hibernation.

I am currently opening a can of "whoop arse painting spree" so well see what comes of it, although I just volunteered at the local library for 2-5 on saturdays.

Midterms are over, and more work has piled on, namely a research paper. i'm slowly chipping at things, but you guys might want to put a pot of coffee (or tea - where aplicable) on the burner, as it may be awhile before I have enough for a substantial update.

I've been consolidating all my WIP stuff and found a whole cache of figs i need to paint. This is going to be a month i try hard to get things done.

to complicate matters, i have 3 poems to write, 1 club scrapbook to make, and midterms....

Ok. Off topic post but here goes.

Went fishing/cruising with my friend and his close family on thier pontoon boat today.

You really seem to get a sense of freedom when your on a speeding boat in lightly choppy waters. A panoramic view of the skyline helps as well.

While zipping around the river, I got energized to start writing a short story i've been putting off. Unfortunatley i have school, painting, and clubs to get through before I spend time on it, plus chores and other family stuff.

I wanted to ask if anyone had any time managment advice?

Yesterday, the 4th of february, I recieved a package from mantic games. Contained within where a full regiment of the new mantic skeletons, as well as a note stating that the sprues were thanks for all the support I have given mantic the last three months.

Needless to say I was very very suprised and happy. It made my day.

Holy groxmeat the month went by fast! I can still remember new years eve. in recognition of an awesome month, heres my tally:

games played = 3 (two losses, 1 draw)

Ok so due to football and other family and RL stuff, painting was spread throughout the week. I finished painting 5 skeleton warriors for my Barrow kings contingent. pictures will come soon, as i have to update the war room as well.

Secondly I have also written fluff for my Tomb kings army, and so I thought I would post it. enjoy:

You stand with your army upon the dunes outside the western wall of Quatar, the palace of corpses. The wall is a massive edifice of sandstone. Carved relief’s depicting the jackal god D’jaf adorn its outward facings. The massive main gate made of basalt and chased in gold holds the image of an ancient king, skeletal in feature, screaming his battle cry towards his enemy.

Then you notice the movement. Something starts to emerge from the sands in front of the wall. Slowly regiments of skeletal soldiers emerge from the sands, their numbers beyond counting. Alongside them trot several hundred horsemen, spears reflecting the light of the sun. Then you hear screams. Your head snaps back toward your artillery, positioned at the top of the largest dune so as to get a good view of the wall for bombardment. Several creatures, what look like large scorpions, have erupted from the sands to ambush the artillery. You quickly order several detachments of troops back to aid the battery and then look back towards the enemy line.

The gate opens and from within the city beyond streams a long column of chariots. At their head is a mummified figure, one of the undead priest kings you had been told of. Then you see it. The liche lord bears an uncanny resemblance to the one pictured upon the gate. Seemingly sensing your location, the ancient warrior points his gleaming spear in your direction, and a battle cry erupts from a fleshless throat. The king’s eyes blaze with pure power and then you realize you and your entire army are doomed.

The hosts of Quatar are not to be denied. For two thousand years since the time of settra the great the white city has stood as a bastion against those who would desecrate and destroy the works of Nehekhara. Among its people the finest artisans of the land could be found and many great statues, of the gods and the kings of the city were lovingly created. Martial as any Nehekharan city Quatar’s fighting forces were one of the most well trained army on the continent, second only to that of Khemri’s legion of the hawks.

Boasting one of the largest contingents of tomb guard in the whole of nehekhara due to the responsibility of guarding the charnel valley, the armies of Quatar, now raised from their slumber, are a match for almost anything an enemy can throw at them. Adding to this is grand vizier Sehenesmet, grand artificer of the ushabti legions guarding the pyramids and holy places of the city. Sehenesmet also oversees the continual repair of the cities bone giants, one of which he has implanted his own body into to lend greater strength to his works.

After the reconquering of the Nehekharan empire by Settra the imperishable during his everlasting reign the many tomb kings of Quatar chose unity in eternal council instead of fighting amongst themselves and subsequently sundering their strength. United as such, the council of kings chose Amon-Zar first and oldest of their number, to lead them. After the council had been formed and their leader elected they set about restoring the defenses of the city, much of which had been left ruinous after the Usurpers treachery.

Slowly the great walls of the city, stretching between the peaks lining the charnel valley were rebuilt, the desecrated Temples and statues restored, and a great council chamber constructed in one of the many levels of the white palace. The sentinels of the city once again stood guard over the Gates of dawn, empty eye sockets peering across the land, fine bows at the ready.

With their first works complete and their domain secure many of the kings chose to return to slumber within their tomb vaults, content to let the liche priests and their fellow kings who chose to stay wakeful in command of the defenses of the city. Several of the undying lords, including Amon-Zar, stayed awake to plan new conquests and great works within the monumental council chamber, only calling forth the remainder of the council in times of dire need or if the matter at hand required their attention.

Alas, all has not been peaceful in the land of the dead since the great awakening. Adventurers seek out the old cities in search of knowledge and gold and orcs run rampant through the mountains. Several times the white city has been besieged, but these punitive attacks have broken against the gates of dawn as if they were the smallest sandstorm against a rocky ledge. Quatar, its defenders, and its kings are immovable and resist time itself from drawing them into its abyss of decay. Nothing that has stormed the walls has survived, and the fleeing remnants have seen arrow storms that block out the sun fall amidst their retreat.

If arrows blessed by the asp goddess do not slay the remaining enemy forces a brigade of chariots and light cavalry will sortie to deal with what little survivors remain. If by some radical extreme the enemy reforms to face the walls once more the tomb guard of D’jaf will take command of the ramparts. Led by Amenemhetan, prince of Quatar, bearer of the twin blades of D’jaf and captain of the tomb guard the heavy infantry hold the walls against any enemy and their unbending line has never been breached.

Now, with fell winds blowing from the north, Amon-Zar has called the council together to discuss plans of war and conquest. So far several of the kings have agreed, but only time will tell the decision of the rest. In the meantime Amon-zar has ordered the armies rise to readiness.

The Jackal Legion
---------------------

Not to be confused with king Lahmizzar of Lahmia’s bodyguards, the jackal legion is the elite of the elite in Quatar’s army. More privileged than even the regular tomb guard of Quatar, the Jackal legions one and only task was to guard the city itself, along with the sacred temple to D’jaf.

Unlike the standing battalions of tomb guard that make up the heavy infantry contingent of Quatar’s army, the jackal legion did not join their king within his pyramid after his death. Instead all members of the jackal legion were interred within a massive underground tomb chamber directly under the gates of Shapesh. This massive obsidian fortification was the principle entry to Quatar’s necropolis. Carved with the likenesses of the gods Shapesh and D’jaf, this entryway served as the symbolic gate to the afterlife. Beyond crowded the sprawling tomb fortresses of Quatar’s many kings, each seeking to expand and increase the defensiveness of their resting places until the complex became a sprawling maze of corridors and vaulted chambers.

Traditionally a prince from each successive generation of the royalty would lead the jackal legion in its duties. This valued commander was known as the guardian of the gate, and wielded the twin swords of the gatekeeper of shapesh. These weapons were symbolic and used in the mortuary rituals of the cities priests as well as in battle. Some say that the wielder was granted supernatural speed to strike down the enemies of his patrons when vengeance was at hand.

To distinguish themselves on the field of battle, the Jackal legion always wielded shields of teak painted black and reinforced with bronze. Such a sight sent many a company of rival cities warriors to flight, eager to be away from these battle hardened soldiers of fearsome reputation.

A new year, a new outlook on the plan

Hello everyone. I would like to start by wishing everyone a happy new year. Hooray 2010!

anyway, i thought i would post an update. recently i have bought and traded for several more items to take my armies to tournament (2250 pts) level each.

I then decided that since all i have to do is build and paint the remaining miniatures i have in my possesion.

To make this happen i have decided that until all of the miniatures i have (including painting projects i never got around to) are painted i will not be buying any more models and instead will put my wargaming funds away in a stash for a new start after said backlog is completed.

This "new start" will introduce a rotating system to my buying and painting habits. Within this change i will buy, build, and paint up to the next level of points for one of my four armies and then rotate to the next army, repeat the process, and continue on.

This elimminates the need for a "backlog" of miniatures and frees up some wieght from my shoulders so that i can continue my building and painting at a steady pace without having to play catch up.

Thats it for this update, although i may post again tonight with pictures of my current works.

just got back from my christmas vacation (i still have a week off school though) and picked up my order at the FLGS.

$55 USD got me two bolt throwers and 20 elves, as well as a tin of flock.

santa rides a chopper!

well, i think santa game me a preloaded gift this year. i participated in one of many forums secret santa's this year, and for my gift i got something really good.

i got a chaplin/librarian custom bitz kit this year. basically santa threw a space marine bike in with a handful of really good bitz ( ravenwing bike front, dark angel power maul, black templar power axe, a little censer on a chain.)

in any event, its one more warrior in my ever growing imperial coalition forces.

the rider and his "Sleigh" will be featured in the blog in later posts.

progression on a long road pt 2

hey guys. i have an update.

i've figured out a way to batch paint mantic elves in sets of three or multiples thereof. as such, i completed 3 more elves tonight.

more elves, and a couple bolt throwers are on thier way to my FLGS, so sometime this week i'll have an update concerning them.

as of now, my priority is final exams for school, and finishing my backlog including the rest of the elves i have.

progression upon a long road pt 1

Hey guys. I have to come out and say it right now. i'm HOOKED on mantic games. SCREW GW and thier BOGUS prices. Mantic knows how to treat its customers like real people, instead of addicts who can't get enough and GW is the supplier.

The elves are superb, the messenger bag is a great carry case, and thier upcoming undead (seen at manticgames.com or manticblog.com) are sure to be awesome as well.

I'm currently painting a test elf at the moment. next up is the rest of the command troop box, then a spearmen troop and a bowmen command troop, and then finally an elven bolt thrower battery. I then plan more spears and bows, and when they come out some units of elven cavalry and palace guard.

i will be on vacation the week of christmas, so unfortunatly my last update next week will have to be my christmas update. as soon as i get back i will post to say i'm back. i will continue posting updates up until i have to leave, so don't worry, i won't give up my blog for even the saftey my soul!

i have also started to finish up my backlog, my new years resolution for last year. i may not complete it by new years eve, but i damn well sure am gonna give it my all.

Hey guys. i thought i would write a short blurb about the tourney today.

i took the following list:

and so, i went to do battle.

1rst game vs Orcs and gobbo's lead by azhag:

i was gunning this game for a good cracks call down his war machine line. i got my engi in position, but then hey got squashed by the foot of gork. from that time on it was mostly defensive gaming. death frenzied slaves saw off some night gobbo's, the cannon took out a lobba crewman, and my loyal clanrat warriors saw off azhag who subsequently rallied in the last turn and didn't do much. mostly his magic fizzled, and i shot up a few things. the game ended in a draw. 10 battle points to 10.

2nd game vs generic wyvern boss Orcs and gobbo's:

i fared better this game. due to some poor manouvering a pretty big scrum by the bell resulted in his boss flying into the sights of my cannon, which proceeded to blast the wyvern to one wound. one of my clannies units died with thier warlock after a combo charge. other orcs and gobbo's got shot, the monks did squat, and the warlock engi's fried things. death frenzied slaves pulled down an orc or two before dieing. MVP for the game was my plague censer bearers, who saw off and ran down a 300 pt orc unit with character after the orcs had charged in. due to scenario requirments this game ended in a draw as well.

3rd game vs vamps:

i felt confident after my giant rats proceeded to beat his bats in the nose, but my PCB's fluffed it against his vamp bunker and died (after the vamp had moved from his dead bunker), giving the enemy an objective token they had picked up. his wolves saw off with two of the other remaining 5 tokens, while the rest were picked up by my units. my doom rocket went spectacular and (as previously said) wiped his vamp lords 1rst bunker completely, which made him scamper into his friends guardian skellies.

due to objectives and his wearing down of several of my units via long combats (and a flank charge with a beef'd coach) the game ended in a loss for me.

so in total i got 26 battle points. the guy i faced first got 1rst place, his brother in law (the vc player) got third for good painitng scores, and the lone wood elf player came in second and got a regiment box.

overal i had a fun time, and i can't wait for the next tourney.

hey guys. i thought i'd let you know of something pretty bad.

one of my weapon teams did not come in the mail in time for the tourney and i'll have to proxy.

i just hope that the officials will let me use the proxy (rattling gun i have) and not force me to

A: buy a new one there and then

or

B: disqualify from the tourney.

now since this is my first tourney i don't know how it will go down, but i'll let you all know what happens tommorow.

the storm looms

so, i had a particulary sobering thought this afternoon.

1. 2009 is coming to a close, and i have only a small amount of time to finish my new years resolution for 2009 (finish my backlog)

although i have made significant strides this year, i still have about forty miniatures to paint.

i had great success last weekend with the 24hour painitng challenge. to this end i have resolved to make next weekend (december 12-13) a paintng weekend of doom. i'll be sitting at my painitng desk all day. i will be creating and posting in a thread in the paintng and modeling section of

2. saturday is my first warhammer tournament.EVER.

i am psyched for it although i will be taking a sub par list (made with the modelsi have) for skaven, i plan to go for the win and have fun anyway. i will be posting on saturday evening with my results, as well as pictures. (i will be taking my backup camera - backup because my newer one is real nice and i don't want it wrecked/stolen.

amid the stuffing and the cranberry sauce, the peas and of course the turkey, i press ever foward.

1. i got a new camera! (yay new and better pictures!)

2. i'm painting my arse off for a tourney this coming 5th of december. so many models, so little time.

3. i have signed up for a twenty-four hour painting challenge on saturday the 28th november, so i'll report hourly then.

hey all. i just had a revelation i had to share.

for the last couple days, i've been looking over a new miniatures company, mantic games. I happen to really like thier miniatures. not only because of thier looks, but heck are they cheap. 25.00 big ones for 20 spearmen with full command.

yea they may be thinner then mose elven models (at least, thier first range is elves) but hey, they're elves, they're supposed to be that way right?

so anyway, having to happen to catch a rare picture of thier upcoming dragon model (which frankly blow's GW's high elf one out of the park, across the city, and into the deep blue sea) i have decided that after i have painted my backlog of mini's i will be buying from mantic for a bit. not only will thier upcoming undead range help beef my tomb kings army, but thier elves will provide a welcome challenge to the painting front. with thier great prices, how can i refuse?

that, and thier packaging is genius. the boxes they come in are designed to be re-used as carry cases for the very miniatures they hold!

the one downside is that they are a british company, which means big shipping on my end, but my local store owner has just informed me he will be ordering them at a discount for all that want them. this is great news.

as a birthday present to myself (17 on friday) i will be preordering thier messenger bag deal.
